Julia Messenger sings Telepathy

February 18, 2012

Julia Messenger sings Telepathy in her studio in Melbourne accompanied on piano by Mark Fitzgibbon. This is an acoustic version of the song that appears on her album “Productions & Collaborations”. Downtempo and Jazzy. She connects telepathically with her lover to find out he’s with someone else – but she doesn’t care.

A list of the gear I use to shoot these videos

Comments Off on A list of the gear I use to shoot these videos

I was at NMIT today talking to the music students about how to make good videos to go with their music and someone asked me to post a list of all the equipment I use and recommend for shooting videos. For more info on making videos, be sure to check out the excellent site about low cost video gear dslrfilmnoob.com

Keep in mind if you don’t want to buy all your own equipment and learn how to make videos from scratch, here’s some info about my services thirdeyevideos.com

Canon 5D mkii and a 550D camera with Magic Lantern software installed
Canon 50m f1.4 lens and 16-35mm f2.8L lens (also consider the Canon 50mm f1.8 if you’re on a very tight budget)
Manfrotto tripod and video head
Haier 7 HLT71 external video monitor

The audio gear I use depends on the job. I’ve listed the gear linked to a video shot with that gear
Nothing but the camera’s built in mike
Rode videomike
Azden 305LT Single Channel Wireless lapel mike
Small portable recording set up that includes Rode NT1a, AKG C3000, Classic old ribbon mike from the sixties plus Motu 828Mk11
Zoom h4n recorder – no link for this one but it is part of my set up.
Sound is mixed back at my studio
Except if someone else records and mixes the sound and I only film, like this video

Final Cut Pro X, good video editing with very good sound mixing tools built in
iMovie is great for basic editing if you are on a budget but its sound EQing, mixing and mastering facilities are poor
Logic studio for post sync sound videos
